Why David C. Cook?
131 years ago David C. Cook prayed, "O God, make all you can of my life" and millions of other lives have been impacted as a result of that prayer. More than a century later, that simple prayer continues to inspire, drive our vision, and move our ministry forward.
Today, Cook Communications Ministries (CCM) is a nonprofit Christian communications organization providing discipleship resources for churches and families in the US and other English-speaking countries.
Key distinctives of Bible-in-Life
Bible-in-Life editors are dedicated to helping volunteers teach the Word of God effectively and grow disciples who are willing to live for Jesus at home, at school, and on the job. Because lessons are easy to teach and quick to prepare, even inexperienced teachers are empowered to be successful.
Home Link
Every lesson links to the previous week's lesson, encouraging accountability. Age-appropriate home ties include letters to parents, reminder crafts and sheets, and daily devotions.
Christian Education Scope
Sequential Bible coverage alternating between New and Old Testaments, with topical studies in the summer months. Over 12 school years, students go through the Bible 4 times at age-appropriate levels. Covers Bible basics for toddlers (18-36 months) through adult.
Lesson Plan
Follows a 4-step natural learning cycle:
- Why is this important to me?
- What does the Bible say?
- How does this Bible passage work today?
- What am I willing to do with what I learned?
This approach reaches every student's learning style, reduces discipline problems, and helps students see the relevance of the Bible topic to their lives.
Lesson Methods
Methods match developmental abilities. Educationally excellent mix of teaching tools that involve visual, active, and auditory learners.
Theology
Full Bible coverage. Version: NIV; Adult: dual NIV/KJV. Evangelical guidance on how volunteers can present basic Bible truths without being distracted by doctrines over which Bible-believing Christians may disagree.
Product Appearance
Teacher and student materials are produced in full color and incorporate classic, age-appropriate, and accurate Bible art as well as contemporary art and photos. Images reflect a deliberate multi-ethnic look.
Social Perspective
Issues are treated as they come up in biblical coverage. Freedom is encouraged for students to make personal and social-action decisions that honor God.
