COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (June 2007) David C. Cook announced today the signing of Leonard Sweet, founder and president of SpiritVenture Ministries. Set to release in 2008, his new book, tentatively titled 11, examines relationships and defines the eleven types of people every Christian should encounter on life’s journey. Using Biblical characters as a template, Sweet explains that reader’s need to not only surround themselves with these eleven witnesses, they also need to be a witness for someone else.
“Len Sweet’s first title with David C. Cook, 11, is an amazing book for every disciple of Jesus longing for more in their relationships,” said Don Pape, David C. Cook Trade Book Publisher. “These are the people you want investing in your faith journey. I believe this book will take [Sweet] to a broader audience than he has had in the past.”
Sweet serves as the E. Stanley Jones Professor of Evangelism at Drew Theological School in Madison, New Jersey and has penned more than one hundred articles and a wide array of books, including The Gospel According to Starbucks, The Three Hardest Words, Out of the Question…Into the Mystery, AquaChurch, SoulTsunami and SoulSalsa.
Further expanding David C. Cook’s 2008 release schedule is the first novel in a three book fiction series by best-selling author Ginger Garrett. Tentatively titled The Scribe, Garrett’s first book with David C. Cook is a modern-day account of a dying atheist’s encounter with an angel that blends scripture, history and storytelling into a captivating novel that will leave reader’s pondering what will be in their own Book of Life.
Garrett first established her name as a nonfiction writer, penning Lose It for Life for Teens with Steve Arterburn and Moments for Couples Who Long for Children. Her breakout novel, Chosen: The Lost Diaries of Queen Esther was nominated for the 2006 ECPA Gold Medallion as one of the top five novels in Christian Publishing.
“I am thrilled with our focus on the Church and those who constitute the church: pastors, lay leaders, parents, young couples, young adults and students,” said Pape. “Our authors and our releases will speak to these varied audiences and their needs. Our desire is to provide resources that equip them in transformed living. That’s what we are about!”
